The polytechnic was established in 1980 with a certificate course in Library Science and Radio & TV Technology. The first diploma course in Chemical Engineering (Pulp & Paper Technology) was started in the year 1983. The status of the polytechnic became grant-in-aid w.e.f. 1 April, 1990. At present, the polytechnic is organized into 6 engineering departments. All the courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and affiliated to Haryana State Board of Technical Education, Panchkula.
