Becker Electric Company, Inc.

Electrician In Alexandria, VA. we opened a business with a promise to provide the best electrical service. And almost 70 years later, we still stick by that promise.

Our founder, Frank M. Becker Jr. was born on December 18, 1923 in Alexandria and he passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2010. In August of 1949, after the birth of his 2nd son Bill, he started his own electrical contracting business, Becker Electric Co., Inc. (BECO). He rented office space at 117 S. Fairfax St. in Alexandria, VA from his father-in- law, Dick Dwyer IV. In June 1961 the site of 820 Gibbon was obtained and it became the permanent site of BECO. Frank was President of the Northern Virginia Electrical Contractors Association in 1965 and instrumental in establishing the bid depository to protect subcontractors’ bids and to help bring much needed integrity to the bidding process. He was one of the leaders in the electrical industry and helped establish the Electrical Apprenticeship program to train and educate others to become qualified licensed electricians. In the 60’s a friend of Frank’s designed a logo for his business that included two orbits signifying electrons (indicative of electrical power or energy). Frank added six stars to the orbits one for each of his son’s. A highlight of Frank’s professional career came in 1976 when the French government gifted the Mt. Vernon Gardens and Estate with an illumination light show for the country’s bicentennial and Becker Electric was selected as the design/build contractor. This was a great honor for Frank and his company; considering his love for history, an honor he held in high esteem. Frank has been an honored and active member of many professional organizations including: Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association of Alexandria, VA, Alexandria Contractors (Past President), Northern Virginia Electrical Contractors (Past President), Metropolitan Area Contractor’s Association (Past President), Kiwanis Club, member since 1959 serving as President 1990-1, Salvation Army, United States Power Squadrons, Alexandria Hospital Corporation, Alexandria Toastmaster Club (charter member). Today, Frank’s sons Bill and Pete continue Becker Electric’s tradition of workmanship excellence.
