The Darling Hotel - Sydney

The Darling is truly the darling of Sydney’s five star hotels. Located within the gregarious Star City casino, the property is a design haven boasting a famed day spa, fine dining restaurant and impeccable service.

A striking sculpture of a giant red swallow is the first thing you’ll notice upon entry, and that sense of whimsy continues throughout the soaring, light filled lobby with its playful mix of colours, and custom designed carpets by Sydney design legend Akira Isogawa. It’s a hotbed of contradictions – bold yet discreet, playful yet sophisticated - you can imagine coming here with the family or for a romantic getaway, somehow it ticks all the boxes.

Rooms

You’ll need some time, and possibly a manual, to understand how the rooms work. The touch of a button controls what you can and can’t see out of the floor-to-ceiling windows (some with dazzling harbour views). Also controlled by said button are the television, the lights and the temperature. It’s high tech and high end – the sort of hotel where James Bond would feel right at home.

The beds are enormous and decadently comfortable, with a range of pillows to choose from. Moodily furnished in natural tones, there are occasional splashes of colour like orange coat hangers and purple towels that echo the playful design features in the lobby. The bathrooms are exceptional: spacious and partially open plan, with twin vanities, rainwater showerheads, enormous circular bathtubs and amenities by Molton Brown.
