<p>In 2010, Blue Middle East (BME)<br /> introduced Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to<br /> the UAE Region by opening the first ever<br /> DEF production facility in the Middle East<br /> Region. BME has managed to<br /> gain and retain its esteemed client base<br /> spanning across Government and private<br /> automotive dealers in Middle East.</p> <p>DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) with a common<br /> name, AUS 32 is an aqueous colorless<br /> Urea solution. Urea is produced by<br /> reacting ammonia and carbon dioxide to<br /> form ammonium carbamate which is then<br /> dehydrated to Urea. This Urea solution is<br /> then diluted with processed demineralized<br /> water. A specific high purity of water is<br /> used to avoid contamination. DEF<br /> consists of 32.5% Urea and 67.5%<br /> deionized water and is an essential<br /> component of selective catalytic reduction<br /> (SCR) technology.</p> <p>SCR (Selective catalytic reduction)<br /> technology is an effective system for<br /> reducing the nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels in<br /> the exhaust fumes from diesel engines.<br /> NOx is a harmful pollutant, as it reacts<br /> with other gases in the atmosphere to<br /> form small particles which can harm living<br /> beings. The automotive system injects<br /> DEF into the vehicle&rsquo;s exhaust system<br /> undergoing SCR reactions. The ammonia<br /> produced by the hydrolysis of the urea<br /> reacts with the NOx emissions and is<br /> converted within the catalytic converter<br /> into harmless N2 and H2O.<br /> DEF</p> <p>SCR Technology</p> <p>Blue Middle East</p> <p>Blue Middle East (L.L.C.)</p> <p>Why DEF</p> <p>Air pollution costs the world economy $5<br /> trillion per year as a result of productivity<br /> losses and degraded quality of life,<br /> according to a study by the World Bank<br /> and the IHME. 1 out of 10 deaths in 2013<br /> was caused by diseases associated with<br /> air pollution and the issue is worsening.<br /> Reduction in NOx level prevents various<br /> air pollution related diseases and brings<br /> down the impact diesel engines have on<br /> the environment. According to the 2014<br /> World Health Organization report, air<br /> pollution in 2012 caused the deaths of<br /> around 7 million people worldwide.<br /> Diseases include Cardiovascular disease,<br /> lung disease, lung cancer, skin allergies,<br /> asthma etc, Reduction in crop yield.</p> <p>Since 2005, it is mandatory for all Euro 4,<br /> Euro 5 and new generation diesel vehicles<br /> to be manufactured with an SCR system<br /> to reduce the levels of pollutants. These<br /> standards are used in relation to the<br /> emissions standards.</p>
